Living and Learning with Technology

 Technology assisting the Visual Arts

Using Technology within the teaching of the ‘Arts’ has increased incredibly over the years. Students are now more than ever have the opportunity and access to express themselves through the use of many technologies such as using computers, cameras, multimedia, video cameras and so on.

For Assignment 2, we were assigned the task to be a researcher on a topic of our choice and then use the software EndNote to show referencing skills. When researching our chosen topic we were required to search library databases (such as ERIC, Proquest, EdIT Lib, Murdoch Library), search engines (such as Google, Yahoo, Bing), and Google scholar to research how technology might be used for teaching and learning the topic in the classroom.

I chose to research the Visual Arts using technology. Guidelines for our research were that we had to find a least one reference from a book, a journal article, a referred conference paper, a website and a movie or podcast. We were required to create a short report on these references and then upload this document to our personal website. You can locate and view this at the bottom of this page.

Google scholar

Google scholar was the first place I started my research and it was a great place to start as such a variety of websites, journal articles and all sorts of links. You can also refine your search using 'Advanced Scholar Search' to get a more accurate, condense search.

Please visit http://scholar.google.com.au/schhp?hl=en for more information. On the Google scholar homepage there is an icon under the search box named "About Google Scholar". Click on this for a list of all of Google Scholars features and for general assistance.

 'Find It' search at Murdoch

The 'Find It' search available at Murdoch University Library was where I found most of my references. I could obtain all the references I needed as the University had already purchased copies of much needed journal articles, books and conference papers. It was extremely easy to use and navigate.

EndNote

EndNote is referencing software to assist you to produce a professional reference page or bibliography and is able to organise references that you accumulate for professional work and research. I am currently using version 4X of EndNote and it is subject to copyright and registered trademark under Thomson Rueters.

I have been entering and saving my references into EndNote and once that is done it is just a matter of inserting a 'citation' into your document and then EndNote automatically updates your reference list or bibliography for you.

Please visit http://www.endnote.com/ for more information on the software EndNote.

I have explored and researched many technologies related to the Arts especially the Visual Arts and created a document containing some great recourses and information related to this subject. Resources range from books, journal articles, refereed conference papers, websites, blogs, movies and podcasts all on how you can use technology for Visual Arts teaching in the classroom.
